To The Not So Artsy Person

You may asking yourself right now...why would she title a blog post like that?  Well I'm going to get right to that answer, I am not an "Artsy Person."  Yes I consider myself as a creative person but I am definitely not an artist.  I do not know how to draw, paint, watercolor, or do any of those fun pages that decorate the talented peoples Bibles or journals.  I do however have a love for Art, the Artist and appreciate being brought into their journey of creation.

Take a look at my friend MariLynn's beautiful journal that she painted using one of You Ministries Scripture Prompts.  It is simple but elegant, colorful but suttle and it just speaks to me and reminds me about the Angels God has sent to protect us.  You see, MariLynn's art took me on a journey.  It made me feel, experience and think.  That is what Scripture Journaling is all about!  It's about the trip through the eyes of Scripture, the interpretations that God brings forth as we spend time with Him in his word.  The experience of being blessed and given wisdom.

MariLynn created a beautiful piece of artwork to go with her Scripture prompt.  She even wrote why she was inspired by this Scripture.  Check out her blog post here.

This is my friend Becca's interpretations of one of You Ministries Scripture prompts about stiff necked people.

Again, her style is her own, no two people are the same when it comes to journaling.  I love how Becca not only used an animal, but she chose a long necked animal.  The Scripture prompt is Jeremiah 7:23-26.  God talks about the "stiff necked people" they were stubborn and evil and did not walk in obedience to God, therefore they went backwards.

So my interpretation of Becca's piece (which I have no idea what hers is) is this; I see an animal with one of the longest necks representing people that are stubborn lift their heads as high as they can get them.  But because the giraffe (people) were not walking forward, they were walking backward and away from God, that long stiff neck got broken.  The bandage to me represents the Lord still waiting and wanting His children to come back to and Him and He waits...

And finally below is my way of journaling.  Again, stencils has been my only way to communicate what my mind is feeling about the scripture.  It allows me to be creative in expressing my feelings instead of frustrating me when I can not draw or paint what is in my head.  So I learned to do things my way.  My point is we are all different and should not compare ourselves to another.  I believe we all have gifts but we must try to learn new things to see what those gifts are.  So let's continue on our Scripture Method Journaling journey together with inspiration and praise to one another in love.

So If Your Like Me, Or Even if Your Not, I Have Created A List of My Favorite Supplies

Below I am going to give you some links to my fav's for journaling.  I have made this list with my most reasonably priced items to get you started especially if you are on a budget.  This particular list is for the beginner or the "non-artsy" person like myself whom might want to try stenciling.  I have have some of my friends write some different posts on how what mediums they use and I will come up for a list of supplies for those as well.  But for today this list is for getting started on a budget.

Supplies On A Budget

1.  You can use any paper lined, plain or graphed that you have at home.  I often find lovely journals at the goodwill that I use because they are cheap.

2.  I love CraZArt  products because they are good quality and compliment a low budget, just the kind of deal I look for.  I tried Crayola but they are too waxy for what I like.  If you want to try these out here is the link:

3. Since I also love to use my stencils a lot, I prefer the ultra fine tip permanent marker.  If you want to give them a go here is the link:

4.  And the stencils...ooh la la.  Yes it makes me excited because as I have stated over and over, I can not draw so the stencils bring out the creative side of me in how I will use and arrange the design based on the Scripture.

5.  And finally, one last budget item I occasionally use is stickers.  This is a faith based pack and is very reasonably priced to see if you like using stickers or not.  Here is the link:

Journaling Bibles

Lastly I want to share two Bibles I love most because they have color pages and lines pages to journal on.  The first is the Creative Bible.  This Bible is the one I take to church and write notes in the large margins and color the pages that have designs.  The second is my One Year Bible that is creative as well.  In our private Facebook group You Ministries, we are using the One Year Bible together so at the end of the year we have all read the entire Bible and filled it up with beautiful colored pages together.  Here are the links for these two Bibles for you to check out.

Wrap Up

And that my friends wraps up the few items that I use to Scripture Journal.  Some items you may already have.  Just remember you can use anything you have to Scripture Journal, even just a piece of scrap paper and a pen...the most important thing about Scripture Journaling is that you are spending time in God's Word and He loves that!  If you want to be part of our chat group, leave me a reply.  I would love to hear from you.
